Zombie Prom, April 27-29
Presented as part of Festival International de Louisiane, this production is a youth-theatre adaptation of the popular 1996 Off-Broadway girl loves ghoul rock and roll musical. It was later adapted into a short film. Set in the 1950’s atomic age at Enrico Fermi High, which is run by a zany and tyrannical principal and situated near an unstable nuclear power plant; bad boy Johnny and pretty good girl Toffee meet and fall in love. When Toffee’s parents forbid her from seeing Johnny he hurls himself into the nuclear power plant unleashing a “class 3 nuclear disaster.” Johnny is buried at sea with the rest of the nuclear waste, but is he really gone? Wonderland Performing Arts is a Lafayette based organization founded by Allison Brandon and offering acting and music classes and workshops seven days a week at varying times for children that build self-confidence, stage presence, theatre knowledge, vocal agility, self-control, communication and improvisational skills. Classes have specific goals and lesson plans in place.
